The recent attacks on Israel and Israeli citizens by Hamas has brought out the worst in people. That would be bad enough if that were it. However, it gets worse. This war in Israel has also brought out the worst in professing Christians.
I use the term professing Christians because no true born-again Believer would ever excuse the slaughter and hostage-taking of innocent people. No True Believer would ever excuse:
“Hamas gunmen massacred 40 children in one farm settlement alone, their small bodies lying in their rooms riddled with bullets.”
Yet, professing Christians, like this one on my YouTube channel, say things like this:
“I'm just going to say that that it might be worth doing a little research into Israel's conduct towards the Palestinians over the past few decades”
They are excusing the reprehensible acts done by Hamas. Yes, they are excusing:
“terrified 90-year-old grandmother's last moments were being dragged into her living room and shot twice in the head.” as reported by the Daily Mail.
As if that were bad enough (and it is truly disgusting), people are also committing blasphemy by using the holy scriptures to defend Hamas attacking Israel. Scriptures like:
Again the Lord said to me, “A conspiracy exists among the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem. They have turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, who refused to hear my words. They have gone after other gods to serve them. The house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant that I made with their fathers. Therefore, thus says the Lord, Behold, I am bringing disaster upon them that they cannot escape. Though they cry to me, I will not listen to them.
- Jeremiah 11:9-11
That scripture is true, but later in the book of Jeremiah it also says this:
Behold, I will bring to it health and healing, and I will heal them and reveal to them abundance of prosperity and security. I will restore the fortunes of Judah and the fortunes of Israel, and rebuild them as they were at first. I will cleanse them from all the guilt of their sin against me, and I will forgive all the guilt of their sin and rebellion against me.
- Jeremiah 33:6-8
And again:
The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah: “Thus says the Lord: If you can break my covenant with the day and my covenant with the night, so that day and night will not come at their appointed time, then also my covenant with David my servant may be broken, so that he shall not have a son to reign on his throne, and my covenant with the Levitical priests my ministers. As the host of heaven cannot be numbered and the sands of the sea cannot be measured, so I will multiply the offspring of David my servant, and the Levitical priests who minister to me.”
- Jeremiah 33:19-22
Did you catch what God said? “Thus says the Lord: If you can break my covenant with the day and my covenant with the night, so that day and night will not come at their appointed time.” The Lord is saying here no one can break the covenant He made with Israel. Just as impossible to stop day and night happening, it is just as impossible for the Lord’s covenant with Israel to be broken.
Israel is far from perfect, and even though it may be a Jewish state, it is far more secular than it is religious. There are facts such as IDF female soldiers must get an abortion or get out of the military and more.
However, let me reiterate there are zero excuses for Hamas attacking Israel.
You might ask, but what about how they have treated the Palestinians? Israel gave Gaza to the Palestinians; that is what they did. What did the Palestinians do next? Did they elect a government that would ensure their freedom, security, and well-being? No, instead, they elected Hamas in 2006. You got that right; they willingly chose Hamas as their leaders.
They chose a terrorist group founded with the sole purpose of the destruction of Israel, or in other words, genocide.
What exactly was the result?
“Today, with over two million Palestinians living within roughly 140 square miles, it is "one of the world's most densely populated territories", according to Gisha, an Israeli non-governmental organisation.
Half of Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip are under the age of 19, but they have few to no prospects for socioeconomic growth and limited access to the outside world.”
I ask, whose fault is it that the Palestinians living in Gaza are under such horrible conditions? Is it Israel’s fault when Hamas uses humanitarian aid to conduct terrorist attacks? Or that Hamas trains children to be terrorists?
The obvious answer is Hamas. It is Hamas’ fault for the inhumane conditions in Gaza.
Simply put, Hamas and the Palestinians who voted for them are 100% at fault—no one else. Furthermore, there is NEVER any excuse for the killing of children, ever.
If you are reading this as someone who defends the previous attacks by Hamas for any reason, you need to repent. You have no love of Christ in your heart. You should be grieving instead of excusing.
